PROLOGUE

Dammit. The Internet, the smartphone and Wikipedia have killed me. I am a history teacher no-one needs. People can get what they want with the click of a mouse or a tap on an App.  I get work at Third World institutions where there is still some mix between man and machine. That’s  why I am in Ethiopia staying at a two star guest house and giving talks to kids who don’t pay much attention and fiddle with the phones I have tried to ban. I was having breakfast of stale rolls, yoghurt and tea that tasted like creosote in my room when a complete stranger burst through the door with a .762 Tokarev pistol in his hand….
